Q: Do I have to work at Unitec to publish with ePress?
A: No, however it is important that you are associated with Unitec.

Q: What do you mean by a quality assured publication?
A: A quality assured publication is one that has been through a rigorous reviewing, correction and editing process.

Q: Can I get my work printed with ePress?
A: ePress is a digital publisher, so we don’t offer printing services. However you can download the pdf of each publication and print it yourself. Please keep in mind that the publications were designed for the screen, so they won’t look as great printed as they do on your monitor.

Q: What is double or single blind peer reviewing?
A: A double blind peer review means that the identities of the reviewers and the author/s will remain private. Reviewers do not know who’s’ work they are reviewing and authors do not know who reviewed their work. A single blind peer review means that either the author/s knows the identity of the reviewer, or the reviewer knows the identity of the author/s. This is only carried out in certain circumstances were complete anonymity is not possible and both parties are fully aware of the reasons, agreeing to a single blind peer review process. All reviewers are active experts within the specific field of each publication and are considered the author/s peers.

Q: Why is my work redacted for a reviewer?
A: We do our best at ePress to remove anything from your work that could identify you to a reviewer. This helps maintain a blind peer review process. Something this is not possible, with eMedia for example or autographic work. In these instances ePress will work with you to come up with a suitable solution.

Q: Why are the reviewer comments redacted before they are sent to me?
A: For the same reason as above. We take out anything that could identify the reviewer to maintain the blind peer review system.

Q: What is a doi?
A: Digital Objective Identifier. A digital publication carrying a doi has metadata recorded at the International DOI Foundation, including the URL, and lasts for the lifetime of the digital object. A doi is more reliable than a URL because if a digital object’s location changes, the publisher can update the metadata for the doi to point at the new URL.

Q: Does ePress use doi’s?
A: We want to and are working hard to get processes in place so we can. Once we do we will assign doi’s to all our publications.

Q: Will I loose my copyright if I publish with ePress?
A: No. All authors retain full ownership and copyright of their work. You are free to publish when and where you like. Though if you do want to publish the same work somewhere else, we ask that you get in touch with us first. This way we can nut out the details and make sure we don’t confuse your readers.

Q: Will my work be published anywhere else by ePress?
A: Yes and no. ePress will publish your work directly on our website. Because they are often pdf’s and we are Open Access, your work can be downloaded and posted on other sites. In this instance it is only polite for people to get in touch with you, however we cannot guarantee this will always happen. When possible your work will also be archived at the National Library of New Zealand and where possible Research Bank. However this is not considered a publication, it is a copy of your original ePress publication.
