Whanake: The Pacific Journal of Community Development is a digital journal for practitioners and academics who love community development. Articles in this issue cover the topics of factors affecting student achievement in the Bachelor of Applied Social Work Programme at NorthTec, and the place of community development in an uncertain and likely difficult future, as well as a case study of community-building in Raumanga, Whangārei. Guest editor David Haigh presents a report on youth volunteering in Auckland, an interview with social-work pioneer Joan Lardner-Rivlin, and a review of Peter Lineham’s timely and comprehensive history of the Auckland City Mission.
