The ASB Polyfest 2024, a celebration of New Zealand's diverse cultures and youth performance, took place with great success, showcasing traditional music, dance, costume, and cultural speech competitions. Unitec was proud to once again support the ASB Polyfest by having a dedicated Unitec site at the event. where ākonga and visitors experienced a unique blend of creativity and relaxation, centred around the Unitec Chill Zone.
The Unitec Chill Zone provided students and visitors with an opportunity to engage in live canvas artwork created by internationally renowned artist and Unitec lecturer, Dr. Bobby Hung. Bobby's live artwork sessions, coupled with a competition offered a chance for students to win a free mural for their school, captivated students and visitors, leaving a lasting impression.
With more than 1,000 visitors across the four days, the turnout exceeded expectations, with attendees reluctant to leave the engaging and welcoming atmosphere of the Unitec site. There was notable support from staff members across Unitec, along with the presence of Executive Director, Peseta Sam Lotu-liga and his family, further enriching the experience.
Additionally, having the Chill zone alongside the MIT installation allowed for a collaborative showcase of the strong offering of Polytechnic study in the Auckland region, emphasising the educational opportunities available to the community.
Feedback from schools, students, and visitors has deemed the Unitec site at ASB Polyfest 2024 as the most successful to date, with its unique blend of creativity, relaxation, and educational offerings leaving a lasting impact on all who attended.
