How the counsellors and mental health advisors can support you
Te Puna Waiora – the spring of wellbeing team provide counselling support for students for any issues that are impacting on their studies (e.g. life challenges, depression, grief and loss, cultural or identity issues, abuse and trauma, sexuality and sexual orientation, drugs and alcohol, family or relationship issues, decision making and goal setting).

We aim to see all students as soon as possible, please know there may be wait times as we accommodate your request.
Time and cost
Counselling is free to all students.
Each session is usually 50 to 60 minutes long and we work with you to establish a support framework to help you reach your goals.
Confidentiality
This will be fully discussed in the first session with the counsellor or mental health advisor and there is a client consent form that you will need to sign. You are able to have a copy of this for your reference.

Urgent appointments
We have a duty counsellor on each day and they have space to see students at 1-2pm each day.
If you or someone else you know is at risk of suicide or self-harm and need to be seen urgently and it is within our opening hours, please call us on 0800 10 85 10 if it is outside of our opening hours please call 111 or The Mental Health Crisis Team team on 0800 800 717 (24/7).
There are also a number of free and 24/7 support External Support Services off campus that students can access should this occur outside of our opening hours or while they wait for an appointment
