Study photography and media and you’ll quickly learn what a big influence it has on our perception of cultures, people and relationships.
Studio practice is a big part of the programme and you’ll use the digital labs, darkrooms and studios to develop your creative ideas and technical skills. You’ll learn how to compose, direct and light images using industry-standard equipment. Also, you’ll be guided by our expert staff and inspired by guest speakers.
Choose photography and you could take part in an internship or professional work experience. You’ll also get to show off your hard work in the campus galleries and at the end of year graduate show.
With all this great experience, it’s no wonder our graduates go on to win awards like the Glaister Ennor Graduate Art Award.

Facilities
Study photography and media arts and you’ll have access to the latest computer software including Adobe Master Collection Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom - the leading photographic management programme used by professional photographers to manage their workflow. You’ll bring your own digital SLR camera, but we will provide access to state of the art professional equipment including Hasselblad scanners, Mamiya RZ67 medium format cameras (some with Hasselblad digital backs), Epson large format printers, 4x5 and 10x8 cameras and a 10x8 enlarger.
Our four professionally equipped photographic studios have Elinchrom lighting and are perfect for working on assignments and your own projects. If you’re using film there are 40 darkroom stations, and if you’re using digital there are plenty of Apple Macs to go round. And to make sure you get maximum practical experience, there’s a full range of equipment for loan too.
And because we understand that great ideas can come at odd hours, you can access the computer suites, darkrooms and photographic studios over extended hours, seven days a week, for most of the academic year.
