History of the Carrington residential development

During 2018 - 2022 land at the Carrington Road site was acquired as part of a residential development.
The development is led by the three Tāmaki Makaurau rōpū of Marutūāhu, Ngāti Whātua and Waiohua-Tāmaki and their project partners. It is being facilitated by the Crown via Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga - Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
4,000 homes will be built as part of the Carrington residential development. The development covers 39.7 hectares of land in Mt Albert, Auckland, next to the Unitec | Te Pūkenga campus.

Current activity and impact for Unitec ākonga, kaimahi and ngā manuhiri

Since 2018 Unitec’s Mt Albert campus has reduced in size and is now contained at the South Eastern corner of the Carrington Road site - view map of the Carrington Road site.
Current Unitec boundaries are marked by signage onsite and changes within and around our boundaries are updated on our campus maps.
The Carrington residential development means there will be some disruption and changes to access and car parking from time to time.

September 2023 - ring road closure

From Friday 22 September, the ring road around the Unitec Mt Albert campus will be permanently closed to traffic.
Cyclists and pedestrians can still access bike and walkways, however please be careful as there are hazards with heavy construction vehicles moving and rough road & path surfaces.

This road closure is to ensure the health and safety of our kaimahi, ākonga and the community while work takes place at the southern end of the campus and around Building 76.

Road closure points are from the end of the B106 driveway entry, past the old student accommodation, to just before the back driveway to Mataaho (see map below).

Access points on Carrington Road: Gate 4 and Gate 1

Access routes will be from Gate 4 OR from Gate 1 with no thoroughfare between the two.

Use Gate 1 to access: the Marae and buildings B48, B149-B165, B170.

Use Gate 4 to access: Te Puna (the main hub) and other buildings & parts of campus.

Signage will identify the closed roads and advise access points.
