School of Building Construction

In the School of Building Construction, we're passionate about making a difference and shaping the world we live in. We off a range of programmes that cover the built environment. From civil engineering to quantity surveying, our programmes are highly informed by industry and are practical, hands-on, interactive and self-paced; as practical engineers and construction professionals, we’re doers not just thinkers. This is an ideal environment to get you familiar with your field before you even step a foot into the workplace.

In the School of Building Construction, we deliver and manage programmes that closely align to construction related industries:

With continuous infrastructure development, New Zealand alone needs thousands of skilled new talent over the next 10 years. We know it can be difficult to be skilled when your studying full-time, which is why at Unitec we focus on providing practical up to date and cutting edge teaching and learning, early exposure to industry and prospective employers, and providing the skills and knowledge that will help our graduates future proof their careers.

Our staff hold a wealth of experience and are experts in their fields. Many of our Civil Engineering staff for example are Chartered Professional Engineers, members of Engineering New Zealand, or members of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors and Licensed Cadastral Surveyors. A significant number of our lecturers also work in the industry, bringing current best practice to the curriculum.

We have close working relationships with many industry organisations. These contacts ensure our programmes are not only up-to-date but anticipates emerging developments to reflect current best practices and the latest industry trends; legislation; and local, global and environmental issues.
