Orientation
Orientation is a time to meet your lecturers and classmates and get yourself ready for class.

We encourage you to attend to help get ready for class.
During your programme’s orientation, you will learn where you will be studying, who you will be studying with, and what to expect from your course.
Part of your orientation includes an official welcome and pōwhiri at our beautiful Te Noho Kotahitanga Marae. To help you understand the protocols of our pōwhiri, and enjoy this special experience, watch our pōwhiri guide.

O-week
O-week is a week-long event with a range of fun activities to ease you into student life at the start of the semester.
International Welcome Day
We recommend international students go through our International Pre-Departure Handbook and see our website for before you arrive guidance.
When you arrive, as well as attending your programme orientation with your classmates, it is compulsory for international students to attend International Welcome Day.
International Welcome Day is your introduction to life as a student at Unitec, with information sessions about life in New Zealand, studying with us, and the student support services available to you. There is also help for any questions or issues with your visa, insurance, student ID card, login details, timetable, and more.

Be ready for semester by completing this ‘to do’ list during orientation and the first week of class.

Get the AT HOP card tertiary student concession
To get an AT sticker for your AT HOP card concession, you will need to go in-person to Student Central. They will give you a sticker, as long as you meet the requirements.

Funding and fees
We have resources to help you with money stuff, and we are here to help you navigate sorting out your funding and fees.
Loans, allowances and StudyLink
Student loans and allowances are provided by StudyLink and can be used to pay for your course fees and living costs while you study.
If you want to access funding through StudyLink, you will need to apply. Studylink does not automatically pay for your fees.

There are a range of services and support for you at Unitec.
Getting to campus and maps
Our two campuses are located at Mt Albert and Waitākere (Henderson) in Auckland.

There are a range of student support teams, services and shops on our Mt Albert and Waitākere campuses. Both campuses are smoke-free, this includes the use of e-cigarettes or vaping.

Technology support
We have a section of our website dedicated to technology support, and if you need help you can talk to our IT Help Desk or drop-in to the helpdesk on our Mt Albert Campus - they can help with things like logging in to Unitec systems and connecting your device to wifi.
